Kaleidoskop media
The Belgrade-based Cultural Center Kaleidoskop, publisher of Kaleidoskop Media magazine, has achieved a historic milestone for Serbian culture on the global stage: the project "The Light of the Logos: Digital Networking, Education, and Inclusion for the Sustainable Development of Contemporary Sacral Art" won second place at the UNESCO competition in Paris.
Out of 881 officially selected projects, UNESCO's International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) chose only 11 of the best, and the project of the Cultural Centre Kaleidoscope ranked second, with a difference of just half a point from the first-place project.
This marks the first time a civil society organization from Serbia has received support from the UNESCO IFCD in the specific field of contemporary sacral art, positioning Cultural Center Kaleidoskop as a leader of innovative practices within the international cultural space.
Global Validation of Vision and Tradition
Following the decision made at the 19th Ordinary Session in Paris, UNESCO has positioned Cultural Center Kaleidoskop as a formidable actor on the international cultural scene, while contemporary sacral art has been clearly defined as a vital component of creative industries and global sustainable development.
Through an integrated approach combining media production, cultural programming, and education, Kaleidoskop serves as a bridge between tradition and innovation - a platform capable of shaping narratives on cultural diversity in local, regional, and international contexts.
Further prestige is added by the inclusion of Cultural Center Kaleidoskop in the official calendar celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, making this project part of the global celebration of this landmark international document.
The independent evaluation by the National Commission during the pre-selection process noted that the project offers a rare and innovative focus on sacral art within a contemporary and digital context, filling a significant gap in artistic and institutional support frameworks. The Commission also highlighted the project’s exceptional potential to contribute to long-term structural improvements in Serbia's cultural and creative sectors.
The Digital Future of Sacral Art
The project will be implemented from May 2026 to May 2028, encompassing international networking for artists, the development of a specialized digital platform, educational programs, and exhibition activities. Through the construction of a digital infrastructure, systematic conditions are being created for the first time for the long-term development of contemporary sacral art in a digital environment, featuring virtual exhibitions, educational content, and international knowledge exchange.
"The Light of the Logos" to Meet Belgrade Audience in September
The international, juried exhibition "The Light of the Logos," to be held from September 1 to 16, 2026, at the Ilija M. Kolarac Endowment Gallery in Belgrade, represents the first public step in this strategic project, accompanied by international masterclasses. The exhibition is held with the blessing of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, continuing a seven-year tradition.
The call for artists is currently open; all information is available at [this link].
The previous 2025 edition confirmed the high standing of "The Light of the Logos" on the regional and European cultural scene: the exhibition drew over 4,000 visitors over 15 days, with more than 600 guests attending the opening ceremony. The showcase featured 97 selected artists with 130 works from 12 countries, including some of the leading iconographers of today.
Project partners of the Cultural Center Kaleidoskop include the Kontrapunkt Association and the Center for Sustainable Communities, with the participation of leading domestic and international experts and artists.
