Cultural Centre Kaleidoskop officially begins the implementation of the project "The Light of the Logos: Digital Networking, Education and Inclusion for the Sustainable Development of Contemporary Sacred Art", supported by UNESCO's International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD), in line with the principles and objectives of the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
This is a two-year initiative (June 2026 – June 2028) aimed at strengthening the visibility, skills, and market access of artists working in the field of sacred art in Serbia, Southeast Europe, and Africa, with a particular focus on young people, women, and artists from vulnerable groups.
Recognized at the national and international level
The project went through a thorough evaluation process, first before the National Commission for UNESCO, and then before the IFCD's International Panel of Experts, which rated it highly and ranked it second among 881 project proposals.
The experts particularly highlighted that "The Light of the Logos" represents a rare and innovative focus on contemporary sacred art – a field that has so far lacked adequate institutional support, while at the same time holding significant potential for long-term development. The evaluation states that the project "fills a significant gap in artistic and institutional support frameworks" and that it represents a model of international cooperation, connecting artists from Southeast Europe and Africa and setting a valuable precedent for exchange within the Global South.
Particular emphasis was also placed on the capacity of Cultural Centre Kaleidoskop – an organization with ten years of experience in implementing cultural projects and its own media portal, Kaleidoskop Media, which significantly contributes to the reach and dissemination of the project's results. The project has also been included in the official calendar of events marking the 20th anniversary of the 2005 UNESCO Convention.
What the project brings
Over the course of two years, through international cooperation, research, education, exhibitions, and the development of digital content, the project will:
⊕ conduct comprehensive research into the needs of visual artists and citizens in the field of sacred art, supported by a focus group with relevant experts;
⊕ develop a bilingual (Serbian–English) digital platform dedicated to contemporary sacred art, integrated into the Kaleidoskop Media portal – a platform that, according to the experts, does not currently exist in the region;
⊕ organize eight international masterclasses, with lecturers from Serbia, Greece, Italy, Bulgaria, and Romania;
⊕ hold two major international gatherings of artists and experts in Belgrade, as part of the "The Light of the Logos" exhibitions in 2026 and 2027;
⊕ produce a digital handbook on sacred art featuring original texts by recognized experts and summaries of the masterclasses;
⊕ present and promote the work of at least 20 young artists, women, and artists from vulnerable groups, through biographies, portfolios, and virtual exhibitions.
According to projections, the project will directly reach more than 240 artists in its first year, while the digital platform is expected to attract over 5,000 users.
First step: international exhibition at the Kolarac Foundation Gallery
The project's first public activity is the international exhibition and major international gathering "The Light of the Logos", to be held from 1 to 16 September at the Kolarac Foundation Gallery in Belgrade.
The open call for participation in the exhibition is open and runs until 25 June. We invite all interested artists working in contemporary sacred art to submit their work and become part of this international project from the very start.
Research ahead of platform development
Before starting the development of the digital platform, we will conduct the research study "Mapping the Needs of Sacred Artists and Public Interest", through survey aimed at:

The results of the research will be presented to a focus group of artists and relevant experts, whose conclusions will directly shape the concept of the future platform – answering the question of what kind of website contemporary sacred art actually needs. Based on these findings, development of the digital platform will begin in the autumn.
Project partners
The project is implemented by Cultural Centre Kaleidoskop, in partnership with the Kontrapunkt Association from Belgrade and the Centre for Sustainable Communities from Novi Sad, with the support of a network of international experts and lecturers.
