The competition for this year's edition of the international exhibition Light of the Logos, supported by UNESCO, is now closed. The Artistic Council now faces a challenging task – to select, from a record number of submitted works, those that will be presented to the public this autumn at the Gallery of the Kolarac Endowment.
Over the more than four months the competition was open, as many as 296 works arrived from 23 countries: Serbia, Republika Srpska, Montenegro, Croatia, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Moldova, Latvia, Italy, Cyprus, Lebanon, Cuba, Chile, Peru, the USA, and the Philippines.
A total of 201 artists took part in the competition, including as many as 42 authors from abroad – the highest number so far – which testifies to the exhibition's growing international reputation and visibility, and confirms that Light of the Logos is becoming a significant meeting point for contemporary sacred art from different parts of the world.
Kulturni centar Kaleidoskop, the organizer of the exhibition, sincerely thanks all the artists for their participation and trust, and wishes them every success in the selection process.
The works to be presented at the exhibition will be decided by the Artistic Council, composed of: Dr. Todor Mitrović, Dean and full professor at the Academy of Arts and Conservation of the Serbian Orthodox Church; Dr. Tihon Rakićević, Bishop of Moravica and associate professor at the same academy; MA Natalija Stokanović, curator and art historian at the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church; Dr. Giorgos Kordis, full professor of iconography at the University of Athens and one of the most prominent contemporary iconographers from Greece; and Gabriel Chițuc, painter and iconographer from Romania.
The competition results and the final list of exhibitors will be published by July 10 at the latest, on the Kaleidoskop Media portal, on The Light of the Logos page. All selected artists will also be notified by email, while information will simultaneously be available on social media and on the project's Viber channel, which you can join HERE.
In addition to the works selected through the competition, this year's exhibition will be further enriched by works from invited artists from Greece, Romania, Belarus, and Serbia.
The international exhibition Light of the Logos will be held from September 1 to 16 at the Gallery of the Kolarac Endowment in Belgrade, with the blessing of His Holiness Porfirije, Patriarch of Serbia, and with the support of UNESCO's International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD).
The exhibition marks the first public step of the two-year international project Light of the Logos: Digital Networking, Education, and Inclusion for the Sustainable Development of Contemporary Sacred Art, which UNESCO included among just 11 supported projects worldwide this year, out of nearly 900 applicants, recognizing its importance for the development of contemporary sacred art, international cooperation, and the preservation of cultural diversity.
See you in September at Kolarac – welcome!
"Light of the Logos: Digital Networking, Education, and Inclusion for the Sustainable Development of Contemporary Sacred Art" is a project supported by UNESCO, within the framework of the International Fund for Cultural Diversity under the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
